Manchester
United managed to climb back to the top of the Premier League standings
after bending Chelsea 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday, September 18,
2011. MU scored third place in the first round by Chris Smalling, Nani and Wayne Rooney. While a single goal Chelsea Fernando Torres scored in minute 46.
Smalling MU scored the first goal in the eighth minute through a header. 37 minutes, Nani added another goal for MU through hard kick outside the penalty box. Minute 45, Chelsea did not move further after Rooney scored the third goal for Manchester United.
However, entering the second half, Manchester United finally conceded by Torres who received feedback via the new players signed Nicolas Anelka. Anelka himself went in the second half replacing Frank Lampard.
MU got the best chance in the 56th minute when a penalty because Nani tripped in the penalty box. The referee immediately pointed to the spot and Rooney's penalty kick was executed. However, that simple goal chances thwarted Rooney once slipped.
Two minutes later, Rooney tried to make amends by giving feed cooked on Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez who was stabbing the Blues defense. But the Chelsea defender the ball hurried cut and re-opportunities to thwart Manchester United.

83 minutes, Torres did the best chance of ending embarrassing. Escaped from the off-side trap and keeper De Gea, Torres who ran alone in front of goal instead directing the ball into the side of the crossbar.
Although there are a few more chances from both teams, and no additional goals are created. Manchester United closed the score 3-1 and topped the standings with 15 points from five matches.
